German Chocolate Cake

Description

A rich and delicious dessert featuring layers of chocolate, topped with sweet coconut and pecan frosting.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, starting and ending with the flour.
  6. Stir in the chopped pecans and shredded coconut.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.

Notes

Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing and do not overmix the batter.
