Description

A decadent chocolate cake filled with layers of moist chocolate and rich chocolate ganache, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin) and fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cool completely.
  8. For the ganache, heat the heavy cream to a simmer and pour it over the chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth.
  9. Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread some ganache on top, then add the second layer.
  10. Pour ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides. Garnish with chocolate shavings or sprinkles. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For an even more intense chocolate flavor, consider adding chocolate syrup between the layers. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
