- 250g butter, softened
- 250g caster sugar
- 4 eggs
- 250g self-raising flour
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 500g fondant icing
- Pink and red food coloring
- 200g buttercream
- Edible rose petals or flower paste
- Green food coloring for leaves
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C and line a round cake tin.
- Cream together the softened butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Fold in the self-raising flour and vanilla extract.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.
- Roll out the fondant icing and color it with pink and red food coloring, shaping it into roses and leaves.
- Once the cake has cooled, cover it with buttercream and pipe a basket weave pattern around the sides.
- Decorate with the fondant roses and leaves, letting it set for about 1 hour.
Notes
Make sure your butter is softened for easy mixing. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting to avoid melting the buttercream. Use icing sugar to prevent fondant from sticking.
