  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate ganache (store-bought or homemade)
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes until mixed well.
  4. Carefully stir in boiling water. The batter will be thin.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once cool, spread chocolate ganache between the layers, then cover the top and sides with more ganache, smoothing it out for a polished look.
  8. Top with chocolate shavings before serving.
