- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1¾ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- 1½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup chocolate ganache (store-bought or homemade)
- Chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes until mixed well.
- Carefully stir in boiling water. The batter will be thin.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cool, spread chocolate ganache between the layers, then cover the top and sides with more ganache, smoothing it out for a polished look.
- Top with chocolate shavings before serving.

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Using boiling water helps keep the cake moist.
