Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup dark chocolate (chopped)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix together flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add butter, eggs, and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
- In a saucepan, heat milk and 1/2 cup sugar until hot but not boiling. In a separate bowl, whisk cornstarch and egg yolks until smooth. Gradually whisk in hot milk mixture. Return to heat and cook until thickened. Stir in butter and vanilla extract. Pour custard over cooled cake layer and refrigerate until set.
- Heat heavy cream until it simmers. Pour over chopped dark chocolate and let sit for 2-3 minutes, then whisk until smooth.
- Pour ganache over the set custard layer and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to firm up.
- Cut into squares and enjoy.
Notes
For a sweeter custard, feel free to adjust the sugar. Use high-quality chocolate for the ganache for enhanced flavor.
