Description
A classic, creamy flan dessert with a smooth caramel topping that’s easy to make at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- Pinch of salt
- 6 tbsp sugar (for caramelizing)
Instructions
- Prepare the caramel: In a saucepan over medium-low heat, mix 6 tablespoons of sugar and 1/3 cup of water. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Let it caramelize without stirring, swirling the pan occasionally until golden, then pour into ramekins.
- Make the custard: In a blender, combine the eggs, sugar, vanilla essence, and salt. Blend briefly, then add the milk and blend until smooth. Strain the mixture and pour into the prepared ramekins.
- Bake the flan: Preheat the oven to 320°F (160°C). Place the ramekins in a baking dish and fill with hot water halfway up the sides. Bake for 45-55 minutes until just set. Cool and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.
Notes
Garnish with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of cinnamon. Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days.
