Description

A classic, creamy flan dessert with a smooth caramel topping that’s easy to make at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 tbsp sugar (for caramelizing)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the caramel: In a saucepan over medium-low heat, mix 6 tablespoons of sugar and 1/3 cup of water. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Let it caramelize without stirring, swirling the pan occasionally until golden, then pour into ramekins.
  2. Make the custard: In a blender, combine the eggs, sugar, vanilla essence, and salt. Blend briefly, then add the milk and blend until smooth. Strain the mixture and pour into the prepared ramekins.
  3. Bake the flan: Preheat the oven to 320°F (160°C). Place the ramekins in a baking dish and fill with hot water halfway up the sides. Bake for 45-55 minutes until just set. Cool and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.

Notes

Garnish with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of cinnamon. Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days.
