Description

A delightful double chocolate cake with rich flavors and a creamy frosting, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (melted, for frosting)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup dulce de leche

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and hot coffee.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract, until smooth.
  9. Stir in the melted chocolate chips.
  10. For the filling, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then gently fold in the dulce de leche.
  11. To assemble, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread the dulce de leche filling over the top, then add the second cake layer on top.
  12. Frost the entire cake with the chocolate frosting. If desired, decorate with chocolate shavings or more chocolate chips.

Notes

Make sure your ingredients are at room temperature and use high-quality cocoa powder for richer flavor.
