- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup hot coffee
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips (melted, for frosting)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup dulce de leche
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and hot coffee.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract, until smooth.
- Stir in the melted chocolate chips.
- For the filling, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then gently fold in the dulce de leche.
- To assemble, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread the dulce de leche filling over the top, then add the second cake layer on top.
- Frost the entire cake with the chocolate frosting. If desired, decorate with chocolate shavings or more chocolate chips.
