Description
A delightful marble cake combining vanilla and chocolate flavors with a hint of coffee for added depth.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp hot water
- 1/2 tsp instant coffee (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing in the vanilla.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk into the butter mixture until just combined.
- Divide the batter into two bowls. In one bowl, mix the cocoa powder, hot water, and optional coffee.
- Spoon alternating dollops of the vanilla and chocolate batters into the pan. Use a skewer to swirl them together.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Optionally top with chocolate ganache or vanilla buttercream.
Notes
Make sure your butter is softened. Don’t overmix the batter and swirl gently for a marbled effect.
