A rich and moist chocolate cake made with cocoa powder and brewed coffee, perfect for any occasion.

- 1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
- 1 cup (240ml) hot brewed coffee
- 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs, buttermilk, coffee, vegetable oil, and vanilla until smooth.
- Gradually combine the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Mix on medium speed until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
- Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in their pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost with your favorite chocolate ganache, buttercream, or whipped cream frosting.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days or refrigerate for up to a week. You can also freeze the cake for up to 3 months.
