Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake paired with smooth chocolate ganache and topped with fresh strawberries, perfect for any special occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • Fresh strawberries for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add in the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Beat the mixture on medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay!
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before removing them from the pans to cool completely on a wire rack.
  7. To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan until it simmers. Pour it over the chopped dark chocolate and stir until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  8. Let the ganache cool slightly, then spread it over the cooled cakes.
  9. Top the finished cake with fresh strawberries for that perfect touch.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding mini chocolate chips to the batter or a layer of strawberry jam between the cake layers.
