Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake perfect for chocolate lovers, ideal for special occasions or sweet treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 45 chocolate bars (e.g., Kit Kat or similar)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chunks
  • Whipped chocolate frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, mixing continuously until the batter is smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the chocolate ganache by heating the heavy cream over medium heat until it simmers.
  9. Remove the cream from heat, add the chopped chocolate and butter, and stir until melted and smooth.
  10. Once the ganache cools slightly and thickens, place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of whipped chocolate frosting on top, then add the second cake layer.
  11. Pour the ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  12. Decorate with broken chocolate bar pieces, chocolate chips, and dollops of whipped chocolate frosting.
  13. Let the cake set for 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
