Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream for ganache
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • Chocolate chunks for topping
  • Blackberries for topping
  • Strawberries for topping
  • Chocolate fudge or syrup for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 8-inch cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually stir in hot water until the batter is smooth and thin.
  5. Divide the batter evenly into the cake pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Let cool completely.
  6. To make the filling, beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar slowly, then vanilla and cream. Beat until fluffy.
  7. For the ganache, heat heavy cream until hot (not boiling), pour it over chopped chocolate, let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  8. Layer the cakes with the creamy filling. Pour ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides.
  9. Decorate with swirls of frosting, chocolate chunks, and fresh berries.

For best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature. Let cake layers cool completely before frosting.
