Description
A rich chocolate layer cake with creamy whipped filling, perfect for any celebration.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Chopped hazelnuts
- Vanilla ice cream (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Stir in the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth.
- Slowly add the boiling water to the mix; the batter will be thin.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool completely.
- For the filling, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
- Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a plate, spreading whipped cream on top, and adding the second layer.
- For the ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering, pour over chocolate chips, and stir until smooth. Drizzle over the cake.
- Decorate with chopped hazelnuts and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for the best batter consistency. Don’t skip the boiling water for moist cake.
