Description
This rich and moist chocolate layer cake is perfect for any special occasion, topped with smooth chocolate ganache and fluffy whipped cream.

- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup butter
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup chocolate ganache
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped dark chocolate
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two cake pans.
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two greased pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Allow the cakes to cool completely.
- Whip the heavy cream with the vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Spread this whipped cream between the cooled cake layers.
- Pour the chocolate ganache over the top and sides of the cake, smoothing it out with a spatula.
- Decorate with the chopped dark chocolate and refrigerate the cake for 1 hour to set.
Notes
Store any leftover cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze individual slices wrapped tightly in plastic wrap for about a month.
