Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for frosting
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Beat everything together until smooth.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the three prepared pans.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  9. Spread the whipped cream between the cooled cake layers and over the top.
  10. Pour the melted chocolate over the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  11. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or fresh berries for added flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
