Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for frosting
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add in the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Beat until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Stir in the boiling water carefully; the batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. While the cakes are cooling, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  9. Once the cakes are cool, spread the whipped cream frosting between the layers and on top.
  10. Pour the melted chocolate over the cake, letting it drip down the sides. Chill for 1 hour before serving.
