Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for frosting
- 8 ounces dark chocolate, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add in the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Beat until the mixture is smooth.
- Stir in the boiling water carefully; the batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
- While the cakes are cooling, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Once the cakes are cool, spread the whipped cream frosting between the layers and on top.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the cake, letting it drip down the sides. Chill for 1 hour before serving.
