Indulge in this rich and beautiful Decadent Caramel Cake with layers of moist cake and creamy caramel frosting, perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup whole milk (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • Caramel drizzle (for garnish)
  • Sea salt flakes (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the caramel frosting, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved.
  9. Add the milk and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  10. Gradually beat in the powdered sugar until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency.
  11. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of caramel frosting on top.
  12. Add the second cake layer and frost the top and sides.
  13. Drizzle caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with sea salt flakes for an elegant finish.

Notes

For the best taste, serve the cake at room temperature. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
