Ingredients

- 1 medium head cauliflower, cut into florets
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 red onion, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (optional)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 tsp cracked black pepper
- 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water (slurry)
Instructions
- Toss cauliflower florets in cornstarch and salt until well-coated.
- Heat oil in a skillet or wok and fry cauliflower until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- In a separate pan, sauté red onion, celery, and garlic in a splash of oil until just tender.
- In a small bowl, mix all sauce ingredients except the cornstarch slurry. Add to the pan and simmer. Stir in slurry to thicken.
- Toss in the fried cauliflower and stir to coat evenly in the sauce.
- Sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
Notes
Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying for maximum crispiness. Fry in batches if necessary.
