Description

A comforting and flavorful chowder that combines fresh shrimp with a creamy base and Cajun spices, perfect for seafood lovers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups seafood or chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning (or more to taste)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until soft, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  2. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it forms a paste. Gradually whisk in the broth, and let it simmer until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the heavy cream and add the Cajun seasoning. Simmer gently on low heat for another 5 minutes.
  4. Add the shrimp to the pot, cooking for 3-5 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to your liking. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, let the chowder simmer longer on low heat after adding the cream. Adjust Cajun seasoning to taste; add more for extra spiciness. You can also add vegetables like corn, bell peppers, or potatoes for a heartier chowder.
