Description

A delicious treat that combines the crunchiness of Saltine crackers with toffee and chocolate, inspired by churros.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 40 Saltine crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the Saltine crackers in a single layer.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly.
  4. Once the mixture is boiling, let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt.
  6. Pour the toffee mixture evenly over the Saltine crackers, spreading it out with a spatula to cover them completely.
  7. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, until the toffee is bubbling and the crackers are golden.
  8. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
  9. Let them sit for a few minutes to melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee with a spatula.
  10. In a small bowl, mix the remaining cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle this mixture over the melted chocolate.
  11. Allow the toffee to cool completely on the counter or refrigerate it for faster cooling.
  12. Once set, break into pieces and enjoy!

Notes

Make sure to spread the toffee mixture evenly for consistent taste. Experiment with toppings!
