Description

Delightful cherry bars with a rich buttery base, perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and almond extracts.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  4. Spread two-thirds of the batter in the prepared baking dish. Spoon cherry pie filling over the batter. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter on top.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and set. Let cool completely in the pan.
  6. Whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle glaze over cooled bars.
  7. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Can be served warm or at room temperature. Great with ice cream or whipped cream.
