Description

A delightful dessert of soft chocolate cake rolled with a luscious cream filling, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs (separated)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks with 1/2 cup of sugar, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients to the egg yolk mixture.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  6. Carefully fold the egg whites into the chocolate cake batter.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 12-15 minutes.
  8. Once baked, roll the warm cake in a damp towel and let it cool.
  9. For the filling, beat heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  10. Unroll the cooled cake, spread the filling evenly, and roll the cake back up.
  11. For optional ganache, heat 1/2 cup of heavy cream and pour it over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.
  12. Drizzle the ganache over the rolled cake.
  13. Chill in the refrigerator before slicing and serving.

Notes

You can customize the filling with flavored whipped cream, fruit preserves, or peanut butter.
