- 1 1/4 cups (220 g) all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup (75 g) cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/4 cups (350 g) sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk
- 1 cup (240 g) peanut butter (for frosting or filling)
- 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar (for frosting or filling)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) milk (for frosting or filling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Divide the batter between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth.
- Once the cakes are cool, spread a layer of peanut butter frosting on top of one cake, then place the second cake on top.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining peanut butter frosting.
- Slice and serve.
Notes
Make sure ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Use natural peanut butter for an authentic flavor.
