Description

A delightful layered cake that combines rich chocolate cake with creamy orange cheesecake, perfect for celebrations or special evenings at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup soured milk
  • 1 cup black coffee
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 oz orange liqueur (optional)
  • 1 1/2 pounds cream cheese
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup whipping cream
  • Finely minced zest of 1 large orange
  • 4 cups icing sugar (powdered sugar)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 34 tbsp milk
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix all the cake ingredients, except the orange liqueur, for 2 minutes with an electric mixer.
  2. Divide the batter into 2 greased and floured 10-inch cake pans. Bake at 325°F (165°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool on wire racks.
  3. Poke holes with a fork in each layer and drizzle the orange liqueur over them if using. Let it soak in.
  4. Cream the cream cheese and sugar together in a mixing bowl until smooth. Add the eggs one by one and beat well after each. Stir in the vanilla extract, orange zest, and whipping cream.
  5. Pour the mixture into a parchment-lined 10-inch springform pan. Bake at 325°F (165°C) for 50 minutes to an hour, until the surface is no longer glossy. Run a knife around the edges to help it cool completely.
  6. Once the cheesecake cools completely, place one chocolate cake layer on the cheesecake in the springform pan. Flip the cake onto a serving plate, remove the pan and parchment paper, and add the second chocolate cake layer on top.
  7. Frost with a thin layer of chocolate buttercream frosting and chill for 1-2 hours.
  8. To make chocolate buttercream frosting, mix icing sugar and cocoa powder. Gradually add the softened butter and beat until smooth. Add milk until you achieve a thick, spreadable frosting.
  9. For the chocolate ganache glaze, melt chocolate chips and whipping cream together in a double boiler, stirring constantly. Allow it to cool slightly before pouring over the top and sides of the cake.
  10. Finish with sliced or supremed oranges for garnish.

Notes

Ensure your cream cheese is at room temperature for easy mixing. Use fresh oranges for the best flavor.
