Description

Delightful Chocolate Old-Fashioned Donuts with a crispy exterior and soft center, perfect for breakfast or as a sweet snack.


Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 3 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the melted butter and sugar until well mixed.
  2. Add the egg yolks and mix until smooth.
  3. Add the sour cream and vanilla extract, stirring until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine all the dry ingredients: cake flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until well combined.
  6. Place the dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to chill.
  7. After chilling, roll out the dough and cut into donut shapes.
  8. Heat oil in a pot to 350°-375°F.
  9. Fry the donuts for 1.5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  10. Remove the donuts and let them cool before glazing.
  11. For the glaze, heat the milk in a small pot, then whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  12. Dip each donut into the glaze and set aside to cool completely.

Notes

Use a floured surface when rolling out the dough to prevent sticking. Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying for a crispy texture.
