Delightful Chocolate Old-Fashioned Donuts with a crispy exterior and soft center, perfect for breakfast or as a sweet snack.

- 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup sour cream
- 3 cups cake flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together the melted butter and sugar until well mixed.
- Add the egg yolks and mix until smooth.
- Add the sour cream and vanilla extract, stirring until combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine all the dry ingredients: cake flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until well combined.
- Place the dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to chill.
- After chilling, roll out the dough and cut into donut shapes.
- Heat oil in a pot to 350°-375°F.
- Fry the donuts for 1.5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts and let them cool before glazing.
- For the glaze, heat the milk in a small pot, then whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
- Dip each donut into the glaze and set aside to cool completely.
Notes
Use a floured surface when rolling out the dough to prevent sticking. Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying for a crispy texture.
