Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 3 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, blend the melted butter and sugar together.
  2. Add the egg yolks and mix until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Incorporate the sour cream and vanilla extract into the mixture.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients: cake flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually combine the wet and dry mixtures until a stiff dough forms.
  6. Refrigerate the dough for 1 hour.
  7. Roll out the chilled dough and cut out donuts using a donut cutter.
  8. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°-375°.
  9. Fry the donuts for 1 minute and 30 seconds on each side until golden brown.
  10. Cool the donuts on a wire rack.
  11. For the glaze, heat the milk and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  12. Dip the cooled donuts in the glaze, let them cool again, and enjoy!
