A rich and moist chocolate cake filled with oozing molten chocolate ganache, perfect for any special occasion.

- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup chocolate ganache (for lava filling)
- 1 cup butter, softened (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
- 2–3 tbsp milk (for frosting)
- Chocolate shavings (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Gradually stir in boiling water until the batter is thin but well combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Heat 1 cup of heavy cream until simmering. Pour over 8 oz of chopped chocolate or chocolate chips. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth. Let it cool until thickened.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing until combined. Add milk to achieve a fluffy, spreadable frosting.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Create a small well in the center and fill it with the chocolate ganache. Top with the second cake layer.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
- Decorate with chocolate shavings for an extra touch of indulgence.
