Description

A rich and decadent chocolate layer cake with a gooey lava filling, perfect for chocolate lovers and special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate ganache (for lava filling)
  • 1 cup butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 23 tbsp milk (for frosting)
  • Chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Gradually stir in boiling water until well combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  5. For the ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering and pour over chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth and cool until thickened.
  6. For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Mix in milk until fluffy.
  7. Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a serving plate, creating a well for the ganache, and topping with the second layer.
  8. Frost the top and sides of the cake with remaining frosting and decorate with chocolate shavings.
  9. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

Use high-quality chocolate for the ganache for best flavor. Make sure the ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing.
