- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 cups (400 g) sugar
- 3/4 cup (90 g) cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the eggs and buttermilk to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed until the batter is smooth and creamy.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Make sure your ingredients, especially eggs and buttermilk, are at room temperature for better mixing. Don’t overmix the batter; mix just until all ingredients are combined for a light texture.
