- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate (chopped)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter (optional, for shine)
- 1/2 cup white chocolate (melted)
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate (melted)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, cocoa powder, and sugar. Set this mixture aside.
- In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter, eggs, and vanilla until creamy. Gradually add the milk and mix well.
- Mix in the dry ingredients in three parts, then add the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let the cakes cool.
- To make the ganache, heat the cream until it simmers. Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate, stirring until smooth. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
- Place one cake layer on a plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top, then add the second cake layer. Cover the entire cake with the remaining ganache.
- Melt the white and dark chocolate, then pipe a grid pattern on the cake. Use a toothpick to create a design inside the grid.
- Let it set for 15-20 minutes before slicing.
