  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. Alternate adding the dry ingredients with buttermilk and hot coffee.
  5. Divide the batter between the pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
  6. For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
  7. Add heavy cream and vanilla, whipping until smooth and fluffy.
  8. Spread a layer of frosting over the top of one cake layer, then place the second layer on top and cover the entire cake with frosting.
  9. Decorate with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or melted chocolate. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature. Mix until just combined. Add more heavy cream to frosting if too thick.
