Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely in the pans before transferring to a wire rack.
- For the frosting, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth, then fold in the whipped cream.
- Layer the cakes, spreading frosting between layers and on the top and sides of the cake.
- Decorate with cream swirls, chocolate curls, and shavings.
- Chill the cake in the refrigerator before serving.
