- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 3/4 cup whole milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with coffee and milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Serve plain, with whipped cream, or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
