Description

A classic Southern dessert that combines rich chocolate flavor with a smooth texture, perfect for any chocolate lover.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pie crust (unbaked)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 ounces evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon table salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the sugar, cocoa powder, eggs, evaporated milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat until smooth.
  3. Line a 9-inch pie pan with the unbaked pie crust and pour the chocolate filling into it.
  4. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, until the center has a slight jiggle.
  5. Allow the pie to cool completely at room temperature, then chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving. Serve chilled, optionally with whipped cream.

Notes

For an extra chocolate hit, sprinkle chocolate chips on top before baking. You can also add mint extract for a mint chocolate variation.
