Description

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Chocolate frosting for layering
  • Cherry and raspberry filling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the unsalted butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Slowly add in milk, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Layer the cakes with cherry and raspberry filling, and frost with chocolate frosting.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature. Don’t overmix to keep the cake light and fluffy. Allow cakes to cool completely before frosting.
