- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the melted chocolate into the whipped cream until fully combined. Chill the mousse in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
- Place one cooled cake layer on a serving platter. Spread a thick layer of mousse on top, add the second cake layer, and frost the top and sides with the remaining mousse.
- Garnish with chocolate shavings or fresh berries if desired. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

For best results, ensure butter is at room temperature and use high-quality chocolate for the mousse.
