- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- Strawberry filling (for layering)
- Whipped cream (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Stir in the boiling water until fully combined (the batter will be thin).
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, slice each cake in half horizontally to create four layers.
- Layer the cakes with strawberry filling and top with whipped cream. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Use quality cocoa powder for a richer flavor. Cake flour can be used for a lighter texture. Let the cakes cool completely before slicing.
