- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder (for frosting)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (for frosting)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract, then stir until just combined.
- Carefully pour in hot coffee and mix until smooth; the batter will be thin.
- Divide batter equally into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely.
- To prepare ganache, heat heavy cream until hot but not boiling, then pour over chopped chocolate and butter, stirring until smooth. Allow it to cool slightly until thickened.
- For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy, then mix in powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Add heavy cream and vanilla, beating until fluffy and smooth.
- Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a plate, spreading ganache on top, then adding the second layer. Frost the entire cake with the chocolate frosting and drizzle leftover ganache over the top.
- Slice and enjoy the rich chocolate cake!
Notes
For added crunch, consider adding chopped nuts to the batter. Ensure cakes cool completely before frosting for best results.
