- 4 beef cube steaks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Oil for frying
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- 1 cup chicken or beef gravy
- 2 cups peas and carrots
Instructions
- Tenderize the beef cube steaks with a mallet and season with salt and pepper.
- In a bowl, combine flour and paprika.
- In another bowl, mix eggs and buttermilk.
- Dredge each steak in flour, dip in the egg mixture, then coat with flour again.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat, and fry the steaks until golden brown on both sides.
- For the mashed potatoes, boil peeled potatoes until tender, then mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
- Prepare gravy using pan drippings or premade gravy.
- Steam or boil peas and carrots until tender.
- Serve chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, along with peas and carrots.
Notes
For better flavor, marinate the beef in buttermilk for a few hours or overnight. Ensure oil is hot before frying for a crispy crust.
