- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp almond or vanilla extract
- Fresh cherries (for garnish)
- Chocolate shavings or slivered almonds (optional)
Instructions
- In a trifle dish or large glass bowl, arrange half the sponge cake cubes at the bottom.
- Drizzle with cherry juice or liqueur, if desired.
- Layer half of the cherry pie filling over the cake.
- Add a few fresh cherries if using for extra texture.
- Spread half the vanilla custard over the cherry layer, smoothing it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and extract until stiff peaks form.
- Spread half the whipped cream over the custard.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients: cake, cherry pie filling, custard, and whipped cream.
- Garnish the top layer with fresh cherries, chocolate shavings, or slivered almonds for a festive touch.
- Cover and chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
For a lighter version, you can use low-fat whipped cream or yogurt. Store leftover trifle in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
