- 2 cups Bing cherries, pitted
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 4 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 box store-bought puff pastry sheets
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- Coarse sugar for topping
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, cook the cherries, 1/3 cup sugar, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice over low heat.
- In a small bowl, mix 4 tablespoons of water with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, then stir into the cherry mixture. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 3-4 minutes, then let it cool.
- In a bowl, beat the cream cheese until fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add 1/2 cup sugar, the egg yolk, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, then beat until smooth.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a floured surface. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture down the center, leaving space on the edges. Add the cherry filling on top of the cream cheese.
- Cut slits on the sides of the pastry and fold over to create a braid-like appearance. Secure the ends to prevent leakage.
- Beat 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush it over the pastry. Sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown.
- Mix powdered sugar with 1 tablespoon of milk and drizzle over the baked pastry.
- Let cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy your flaky, fruity pastry with a drizzle of glaze!
Notes
Best served warm or at room temperature. Can be paired with vanilla ice cream. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
