A delightful dessert that combines the sweet taste of cherry pie with the gooey goodness of monkey bread, perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon + 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 package (0.25oz or 2 1/4 teaspoons) Red Star Active Dry Yeast
  • 2/3 cup warm water (110-115°F)
  • 4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk powder
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 can (21oz) cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted (for coating)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of sugar and yeast in warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 3 cups flour, dry milk powder, and salt. Add milk, melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture; stir until dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 10 minutes on a floured surface or 5 minutes in a stand mixer until smooth, elastic, and slightly sticky. Add flour as needed.
  4. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and let it rise for 1 to 1 1/4 hours until it doubles in size.
  5. Mix graham cracker crumbs and sugar for the filling. Dip each piece of dough (cut into 1-inch balls) into melted butter, then coat with the graham cracker-sugar mixture.
  6. Layer the dough balls in a greased Bundt pan, spoon half of the cherry pie filling over them, add another layer of dough balls followed by the remaining cherry pie filling and top with more dough balls.
  7. Cover and let the dough rise for 45 minutes until nearly doubled.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and filling is bubbly. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then invert onto a plate.
  9. Beat icing ingredients until smooth and drizzle over the warm bread.
