A delightful dessert combining the sweet taste of cherry pie and the gooey goodness of monkey bread, perfect for gatherings or as a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon + 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 (0.25oz) package (7g) or 2 1/4 teaspoons Red Star Active Dry Yeast
  • 2/3 cup warm water (110-115°F)
  • 4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk powder
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 (21oz) can cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine 3 cups of flour, dry milk powder, and salt in a bowl. Add milk, melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture; stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 10 minutes on a floured surface or for 5 minutes in a stand mixer until smooth and elastic.
  4. Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1 1/4 hours until doubled.
  5. Mix graham cracker crumbs and sugar for the filling. Dip each 1-inch dough ball into melted butter, then coat in the mixture.
  6. Layer dough balls in a greased Bundt pan, spoon half of the cherry pie filling over, add another layer of dough balls, remaining filling, and top with dough balls.
  7. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown. Cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a plate.
  9. Beat icing ingredients until smooth, then drizzle over the warm bread.

Notes

Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for 5 days.
