Description
Delicious comfort food featuring juicy ground beef and melted cheese, all sandwiched between crispy, buttery bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 4 slices sourdough or Texas toast
- 4 slices Swiss or provolone cheese
- 2 slices American cheese (optional, for extra melt)
- 2 tbsp butter (for grilling)
- 1 tbsp mayo (optional, for spreading on bread)
Instructions
- In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add the chopped onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is fully done and the onions are caramelized.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread. Place the buttered side down in a skillet. Add a slice of Swiss or provolone cheese, a scoop of the hot beef mixture, and (if desired) a slice of American cheese. Top with another slice of bread, keeping the buttered side up.
- Heat your skillet or griddle over medium heat. Grill each sandwich for about 3–4 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melty.
- After grilling, let the sandwiches rest for 1–2 minutes to help set the cheese, making slicing easier.
- Serve hot with chips, pickles, or a fresh side salad.
Notes
For extra flavor, add diced bell peppers or mushrooms to the beef mixture. Let sandwiches rest after grilling for best results.
