Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (such as dill, parsley, or thyme)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Add the melted butter, milk, and egg to the yeast mixture, then combine with the dry ingredients.
  4. Stir in the cheddar cheese and herbs until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Punch down the dough, then roll it out into a rectangle.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese and herbs over the dough, then roll it up tightly.
  10. Place the rolled dough into a greased loaf pan.
  11. Let it rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  12. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Allow to cool before slicing and serving.

For best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature. Don’t skip rising times to develop texture.
