Description

A delightful cake that combines rich caramel and crunchy walnuts, perfect for special occasions or a coffee-time treat.


Ingredients

  • 250 g (2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 200 g (1 cup) sugar
  • 120 g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 200 ml (3/4 cup) buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Alternate adding the dry ingredients with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter into the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Let cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, layer with caramel and walnuts as desired. Enjoy your cake!

Notes

Serve with whipped cream and store in an airtight container for up to three days at room temperature or a week in the fridge.
