Description
Delightful dessert featuring layers of caramel, tart apples, and creamy whipped topping, perfect for gatherings or cozy evenings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (207g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (120ml) water
- 1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 to 1 tsp salt
- 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 4 tbsp (56g) packed brown sugar
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup (58g) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup cinnamon granola
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar and water. Cook over medium-low heat for 3-5 minutes until dissolved. Add butter and melt, then bring to a boil without stirring. Let boil until deep golden copper, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat, whisk in heavy cream, add vanilla extract and salt. Let cool.
- Wash, peel, and dice the apples. In a pan, combine apples, lemon juice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Toss to coat. Cook over medium heat for 10-15 minutes until softened, then let cool.
- In a large mixing bowl, whip heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and cinnamon until stiff peaks form.
- In four jars or cups, layer cinnamon whipped cream, 2 tablespoons of granola, 1 tablespoon caramel sauce, and 2 tablespoons of cooked apples. Repeat layers, finishing with caramel sauce.
- Enjoy immediately or chill for 2-3 hours before serving. Best eaten within 1-2 days.
Notes
Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a nice contrast to the sweet caramel. Be cautious when making the caramel sauce as it can get very hot.
