  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (85g) dark chocolate chunks (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Butter: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir constantly until it turns golden brown and emits a nutty aroma, about 4-5 minutes. Pour into a heatproof bowl and let it cool for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together brown sugar and granulated sugar. Stir in the cooled brown butter until combined. Add eggs and vanilla extract, and beat until smooth. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients, then fold in the chocolate chips and chunks.
  3. Chill the Dough: Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  4. Bake the Cookies: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Scoop the dough into balls and place them on the sheets, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden and the centers look underbaked. Cool on the sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with flaky sea salt while warm.
