Description

A delicious dessert combining fresh blueberries and creamy filling, wrapped in flaky puff pastry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 box puff pastry sheets (thawed)
  • Coarse sugar, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, add blueberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir together.
  3. In a small bowl, mix water and cornstarch until smooth, then add to the blueberry mixture. Stir for 3-4 minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
  4. In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). Add sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, gently roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets until more square. Spoon half of the cream cheese mixture down the center of each sheet, leaving 1 1/2 inches of space at each end. Spoon half of the cooled blueberry mixture over the cream cheese mixture.
  6. Cut two slits at each end (about 1 inch long) and fold these flaps over the filling. Cut strips on each side of the pastry, angled away from the filling. Fold the strips over each other to create a braid. Secure the ends.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water for the egg wash. Brush over both braids and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and flaky. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Pairs well with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
