A classic dessert combining chocolate cake, cherries, and whipped cream, perfect for any occasion.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate shavings
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread cherry pie filling evenly on top.
- Place the second cake layer on top, then cover the entire cake with whipped cream, frosting the top and sides generously.
- Garnish with chocolate shavings and extra cherry pie filling.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.
Notes
For a richer taste, use high-quality cocoa powder and consider adding a layer of chocolate ganache.
