Description

A classic dessert combining chocolate cake, cherries, and whipped cream, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread cherry pie filling evenly on top.
  8. Place the second cake layer on top, then cover the entire cake with whipped cream, frosting the top and sides generously.
  9. Garnish with chocolate shavings and extra cherry pie filling.
  10. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For a richer taste, use high-quality cocoa powder and consider adding a layer of chocolate ganache.
